More than 100 new casket flags will be added to the Avenue of Flags, bringing the total to nearly 3800, each one representing a veteran and bearing a brass dog tag signifying the name, rank, branch and unit of service.

Memorial Day Weekend Starbase Composite SquadronEach Memorial Day Weekend, as our Youth on Guard team performs with humble sacrifice, our squadron Flag Patrol will be on duty, patrolling the grounds of Floral Haven, ensuring that the casket flags fly properly and free from obstruction, while also maintaining the grounds.

As you and your family are visiting over Memorial Day Weekend and you see one of our teams caring for the donated (by families of veterans) flags, please take note of the process.  They will salute the flag, read aloud the brass dog tag, observe a moment of silence, lower the flag, fix it, raise it, and then salute it before moving on.  As you see them performing their volunteer duty, we encourage you to approach and speak with them after they complete a flag ceremony.  Our Flag Patrol teams will be operating from Saturday at noon through Monday at 5 p.m., during daylight hours.

Our Youth on Guard team will be operating from 1 p.m. on Saturday Memorial Day Weekend Starbase Composite Squadronthrough 5 p.m. on Monday, around-the-clock.  If you are able to, we encourage you to visit the Youth on Guard during the day and then again in the late hours of the evening, when all is quiet.  As you hear the solemn clicking of the taps on the shoes echoing in the quiet of the night, the program takes on a whole new meaning to you.  It is a remembrance that we hope everyone gets to experience.

We would like to thank our sponsors, who so graciously have made performing this event so much easier for our teams. Thank you to each of you!

We look forward to visiting with you and your family this weekend.
