75th Anniversary Speaker Series: Corporal Darian Whittaker, Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office

The Starbase Composite Squadron, a local unit of the Civil Air Patrol, is hosting an open house from 6pm to 9pm, on Tuesday, July 12th at the Oklahoma Army National Guard Base, in Tulsa, OK located at 4222 N Mingo Valley Expressway.  Squadron Commander, Captain Gary Sutherland, would like to invite the community to attend and learn more about CAP. Members of the squadron will be present to greet visitors and explain CAP’s missions for America. CAP was founded on Dec. 1, 1941, and Starbase Composite Squadron is celebrating with a series of educational and leadership oriented guest speakers each month. The open house is a part of the 75th anniversary observance designed to create a greater awareness of CAP’s presence and contributions in the community.

This month’s Open House Guest Speaker will feature Corporal Darian Whittaker, Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office.

Darian Whittaker Situational Awareness Starbase Composite SquadronDarian Whittaker has served as a Corporal with the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office for 11 years. He has extensive knowledge and expertise in, Use of force, Firearms, SWAT tactics, and hand to hand combat. Deputy Whittaker is an Operator and Assistant Team Leader for the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Team.

Darian has studied under some of the world’s greatest martial artists. Darian began his training under the late Terry Gibson in 1986 attaining the rank of full instructor. He also holds the rank of Full Instructor in the Filipino Martial Arts, Jun Fan Gung Fu / Jeet Kune Do, and Guro Level 3 in the Majaphit martial arts under world famous Dan Inosanto. He is also a certified Muay Thai instructor and the former South Central Regional Director of the Thai Boxing Assoc. under Ajarn Chai Sirisute. In addition, Mr. Whittaker holds a Full Instructor level under Marc McFann.

Darian Whittaker has competed in grappling, full-contact kickboxing, and boxing. In 1991, he became the Martin Penny Middleweight Champ, was on the regional Golden Gloves team, and was runner up to go to the nationals, training under Ralph Friend, an Olympic boxing team trainer. His last year of competition, Darian was the Light Heavy Weight Golden Gloves State Champion.

Currently Darian is a Corporal and Instructor in the TCSO training Department where Darian Whittaker Situational Awareness Starbase Composite Squadronhe serves as a Defensive Tactics Instructor, Firearms Instructor,and scenario based training instructor. Darian also holds a commission with Homeland Security Investigations. Darian is the Team leader for TCSO’s Protective Detail Operations and has coordinated or served on the Protective details of former Congressman John Sullivan, Jim Bridenstine, Miss America, Israeli Ambassador Ron Dermer and several Judicial Officials.

Starbase Composite Squadron’s regular squadron meetings are on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 – 9:00pm (1800 – 2100).  We meet at the Oklahoma Army National Guard Base (4222 N Mingo Valley Expressway, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74116).

Civil Air Patrol, the longtime all-volunteer U.S. Air Force auxiliary, is the newest member of the Air Force’s Total Force, which consists of regular Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, along with Air Force retired military and civilian employees. CAP, in its Total Force role, operates a fleet of 550 aircraft and performs about 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 78 lives annually. Civil Air Patrol’s 56,000 members nationwide also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. Its members additionally play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 24,000 young people currently participating in the CAP cadet program. Performing missions for America for the past 75 years, CAP received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2014 in honor of the heroic efforts of its World War II veterans.
