Welcome to the Starbase Composite Squadron website. We are a proud member of the Civil Air Patrol, Oklahoma Wing.
Civil Air Patrol:
In the late 1930s, more than 150,000 volunteers with a love for aviation argued for an organization to put their planes and flying skills to use in defense of their country. As a result, the Civil Air Patrol was born one week prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Thousands of volunteer members answered America’s call to national service and sacrifice by accepting and performing critical wartime missions. Assigned to the War Department under the jurisdiction of the Army Air Corps, the contributions of Civil Air Patrol, including logging more than 500,000 flying hours, sinking two enemy submarines, and saving hundreds of crash victims during World War II, are well documented.
After the war, a thankful nation understood that Civil Air Patrol could continue providing valuable services to both local and national agencies. On July 1, 1946, President Harry Truman signed Public Law 476 incorporating Civil Air Patrol as a benevolent, nonprofit organization. On May 26, 1948, Congress passed Public Law 557 permanently establishing Civil Air Patrol as the auxiliary of the new U.S. Air Force. Three primary mission areas were set forth at that time: aerospace education, cadet programs, and emergency services.
Our senior members and cadets support all of these missions, and more. CAP’s role in Operational Missions has grown over the years, contributing in areas such as Homeland Security, Disaster Relief, Counter-drug, Aerial Reconnaissance, Advanced Technologies, Humanitarian Missions, and non-combat-related support to the Air Force. CAP also performs non-auxiliary Operational Missions for various governmental and private agencies, including missing persons searches for local law enforcement, critical supply transport for the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army, and support for the United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Starbase’s strength is our volunteer members—Friendly cadets and adults working together to live out our CAP Core Values of Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence, and Respect. Starbase’s award-winning Cadet Program, Emergency Services training, and Aerospace Education (with opportunities for you to fly!) provide you great ways to grow and serve your community.
Starbase Composite Squadron offers teens strong leadership and mentoring from experienced cadet officers who have earned the highest levels of the CAP Cadet Program. Decorated and award winning Cadet Officers and Cadet NCOs invest in our newer cadets to help them to learn, grow, and advance through grade promotions. Starbase is a premiere squadron for Tulsa area teens!
